Redesigning the lifestyle app to improve user engagement by making it more fun, inclusive and encouraging.

Curaçao, a Dutch Caribbean island, is known for its beaches tucked into coves and its expansive coral reefs rich with marine life. We drew inspiration from their capital city of Willemstad, where pastel-colored colonial architecture still remains.

We identified the brand archetypes in order to solidify their brand personality and their tone of voice. Fooducate is committed to educating their users about nutrition and to improving their lives, hence we defined their archetypes to be Sage and Caregiver.


From our user interviews we learned that after some time many users became uninspired and felt discouraged about continuing with the app. So we wanted to make sure our app had a very welcoming, fun vibe. We also added some fun interactions to enhance the visual experience.




We chose Capriola as the display typeface, as it conveys our friendly and fun vibe. We paired it with DM Sans, a simple yet friendly sans-serif typeface to achieve high legibility.



The primary and second color palettes were chosen based on our design inspiration - the architecture in Curaçao and the nature that surrounds it.
Three sets of buttons are used to effectively communicate the actions that users can take.



Newly designed badges will enhance the user experience by providing a lively visual language to encourage users to stay on their health paths.












Families can operate through one account with different profiles based on everyone’s dietary needs.

Users can access a wide selection of diverse and multicultural recipes, and customize them to fit their specific needs.

Users can easily find information published by certified nutritionists and make appointments for virtual consultation.

Users can create to-do lists for everyday health routines, set reminders, and celebrate their achievements.

Daily quizzes, group challenges, and achievement badges create a fun environment for users to stay focused on their health goals.




The team created a design system with a new color palette, typography and illustrations. It was a challenge for us to create an organized and coherent system as each member of the team was working simultaneously to revise the design. However, we learned how to better communicate as a team in order to run our project smoothly. As a result, our redesigned app has a visually appealing, friendly and vibrant look that truly speaks to the brand’s personality.
