A lifestyle app redesign to encourage healthy eating habits and to provide nutritional information specific to user’s needs.

Dieting is not just about weight loss. It can be a lifestyle change that makes you healthier, stronger, and happier. To achieve such goal, users should have easy access to nutritional information and plans that fit their specific needs: schedule, family type, motivation, cultural background, current health conditions, etc.
The team redesigned the app to be more inclusive, fun and encouraging for users of all types. We made sure our diet tips and nutritional information represent a diverse food culture, and we integrated community function and gamification to keep our users encouraged and engaged.

We conducted extensive research to understand the current system, our target audience and their needs.
Assessing our potential competitors' products helped us understand their strengths and weaknesses, and identified how Fooducate can differentiate itself in the market.

We then conducted several empathy interviews to understand users' needs and wants. Through this process we learned that many people feel pressured or obsessed about lose weight, which often affects their self-esteem.

We developed some personas that represent our target audience. They range in ethnicity, age, family type and health condition.
Each persona needs help in a different area to improve or maintain their health.

Then we hypothesized their daily behaviors to understand the issues each user may encounter to find opportunities to solve their potential problems.

We developed simple statements that summarize their POV, and defined five problem areas where we may be able to improve their user experience.

We conducted group brainstorm sessions to discuss how we might be able to change the status quo and potential product features.

We consolidated the ideas and proposed five new product features to improve the user experience and satisfy the user needs that we defined.

Next, we created taskflows to illustrate how users would engage with the new app.

By creating low, mid, and high-fidelity prototypes, we tested our taskflows and made improvements at each stage of our design process.
Simultaneously we conducted user testing to confirm that users can smoothly navigate through the app without any instruction.

Our redesigned app highlights the key user problems we discovered during our empathy interviews and research. Each of our new features improved the user experience by providing a more inclusive, fun environment to keep users motivated and engaged. The newly introduced content matches the preferences of our users for realistic diets and the need to accommodate their diverse lifestyles and backgrounds. In the final stage of our project, we conducted multiple iterations of high-fidelity testing to further improve the user experience.
